SFA Outside Scholarship Application

APPLICANT CRITERIA:
    • Home and place of residence must be in Brevard County, Florida, or must have graduated from a Brevard County high school.
    • Accepted for admission to a state college or university in the state of Florida.
    • Enrolled as a half-time, degree-seeking student in an undergraduate, graduate, or professional program.
    • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
    • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA.

PROCEDURES:

1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible.
    • For the University of Florida to receive the results of your FAFSA, include UF’s school code (001535) in the School Selection section. You may list multiple schools on the FAFSA. If you will not be a student at the University of Florida, be certain to also include the school code for the institution you plan to attend.
    • Results of the FAFSA must be received by the University of Florida by June 15th.
2. Submit the following application materials to the Office for Student Financial Aid and Scholarships prior to the June 15th  deadline.
    • Frederick W. & Grace P. Brecht Scholarship Application.
    • If you are not a graduate of a Brevard County high school, you must provide proof of Brevard County residency for the past two years. Please submit a signed copy of your Federal Income Tax Return to document your residency.
    • Prior Brecht Scholarship recipients who have already provided documentation are not required to submit proof again.
    • Proof of acceptance/admission to the academic institution listed on the application, if attending there for the first time.
    • A copy of your most recent official or unofficial transcripts.

AWARDING:
    • Due to limited scholarship funds, applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. 
    • Applicants may expect to receive notification of scholarship decision by September 1st.
    • Recipients are required to be enrolled at least half-time to receive scholarship funds. 
    • Scholarship funds will be sent to the financial aid office of the college or university the recipient will attend. Generally, checks are mailed to institutions a few weeks after the beginning of each term. 
    • Recipients must notify the UF Office for Student Financial Aid and Scholarships immediately if the choice of college/university changes. 
    • Awards are split evenly between fall and spring semesters. 

RENEWAL:
    • Scholarship recipients are selected annually; renewal is not automatic. To be considered for renewal, after January 15th each year, you must submit a new application and complete each step listed in the PROCEDURES section of the new application instructions.
